The Love Affair continues
I only have to walk out of the door at this time of year to know how much I love it. There are announcements everywhere that ‘newness’ is happening. It’s a new time and the buds of spring that stick their heads up in winter make me feel so happy. I have camelia’s flowering and snowdrops, crocus’s and daffodils positively pushing their way up as a reminder that life goes on, everything changes, the seasons are in full swing.
I’m one of those who has the Christmas tree up as soon as I’m allowed and love late nights of wrapping and labelling presents to put under my tree; with gratitude and appreciation overflowing. I can’t get enough of the excitement, flair, flavour, traditions and meeting up with loved ones. And then every year as we start a new calendar, a new month and a new year I’m struck by the stark contrast between the months and what January brings to us all. At Lower Barns the emails ping and the phone rings with people planning their holidays and their weddings. We hear the stories behind their plans. People return to Cornwall where they haven’t been since they were a child, some are returning as they do every year, others are celebrating special birthdays and anniversaries and excited to be positively marking the dates in their diaries and getting their dreams into place. We hear how loved ones have proposed. Sometimes we are jolted to reality where people are making plans having lost a loved one and know that the time has come to start ticking things off their bucket list. With every phone call and email and every story we hear we are touched, motivated and inspired.
Mike and I are always busy at this time of year. The Hideaway has been having a makeover and the gardens around The Wed Shed are currently seeing big change. Mike and Tyler are outside, no matter what the weather and it’s all coming together beautifully, and will be ready for alfresco weddings to begin again!
So many people take the opportunity to visit us in Cornwall to mark a special time in life. Sometimes it’s with a partner, a parent, a son or daughter, a sibling or a friend. People mark the time with a luxury stay, making the most of luxe surroundings, great food and quality time.
It’s invigorating to walk on a quiet ‘off the beaten track’ beach before coming back to chill with a glass of your favourite wine in front of the fire in Cranny, and the appeal of staying put to enjoy the privacy of your own garden, your spacious suite and to chill in the hot tub before a hot choccie in front the fire must never be under estimated!
At Lower Barns and in Cornwall we have something for everyone. We have deserted beaches, cliff paths, moors, quaint villages and harbour towns, art galleries, museums, cycle paths and landmark award winning Tourist Attractions such as the Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan on our doorstep. For guests in Nook and Cranny, which are our most luxurious suites, you have private courtyard gardens, hot tubs, SMEG fridge freezers (so you can bring your own booze), Cranny has a log burner, Nook has a sauna and we deliver breakfast to your door. If you fancy dinner with us (please make sure you order when you book) you can dine in The Party Shed, The Shack or in your suite.
We always say that a smile lasts a moment but the memory of Lower Barns lasts forever. We hope you get to celebrate your special people with quality time this year and to create new memories while you reminisce about the old times and look to our big skies together to find and make new dreams.
