Outdoor Theatre in Cornwall this summer…
We are great lovers of theatre, and especially outdoor theatre in Cornwall and this summer there is plenty for us to look forward to.
If you have never been to the Minack Theatre then it’s really something to put on your bucket list. It’s outdoor heaven and this is what they say about it,
“The Minack Theatre is the most famous cliffside open-air theatre in Britain, possibly in the world; from above it looks as though some wandering Greeks, two thousand years ago, had carved a theatre into the granite cliffs of Porthcurno, Cornwall.
In fact, it was just under eighty years ago that there was nothing there except a sloping gully of gorse and heather and below that, the sea of the Atlantic Ocean”.
Personally quite keen to see Kernow King and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
The Kneehigh Theatre never ever cease to amuse and excite us with their clever, witty, dark, humorous, just staggeringly brilliant performances. And just to add to the brilliance they are performing at The Lost Gardens of Heligan again this year which is just a mile up the road from 25th July – 23rd August. Tickets sell fast, so don’t hand around!
This year it’s 946, which is based on Michael Morpurgo’s The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips and they say “it explodes everything we thought we knew about the D-Day landings.”
They also say this “The Asylum is Kneehigh’s award winning, jaw-dropping, spirit-lifting nomadic theatre space. A place of fun, playfulness and sanctuary, the Asylum is a purpose built tent, a home and – as described by The Guardian – ‘a place predisposed to magic’. In Cornwall for the fifth year, the Asylum seasons are a chance for friends old and new to enjoy world class theatre, delicious food and drink, live music and a good old-fashioned Kneehigh knees-up.”
Unbeatable!
And then being absolutely spoilt for choice we have The Miracle Theatre doing their own very special thing. This year it’s a spaghetti western ‘The Magnificent Three’. It’ll be great fun with a lot of yee-hawing.
This show tours loads of wonderful Cornish towns and villages and performs outside, whatever the weather. On the day decide what’s best to take, but whatever, we recommend always taking a blanket, or you might get blanket envy. You might want to bring a chair too and definitely bring a picnic and a nice glass of whatever you fancy. Refreshments are available at some of the venues, so check that out when you buy your tickets.
