When travelling from afar, many of our couples like to stay a little longer than just one night. We live in a beautiful part of the world after all! We are huge fans of Cornwall and we think our beautiful county is great fun come rain or shine – but, when it does get a little misty/drizzly (or mizzly, as we say down here), it’s best to be prepared. So swot up and come armed with a list of rainy day activities in Cornwall and you won’t be disappointed.

Escape to a rainforest
If you’ve had enough mizzle for one day, why not escape to the rainforest for an afternoon? We’re talking about the largest indoor rainforest in the world – otherwise known as the Eden Project. You’ll find this epic attraction plopped in a crater the size of 30 football pitches and the two most popular attractions when you arrive are the two biomes: Rainforest and Mediterranean. It’s a great place for kids with plenty of opportunities to learn and play. What’s more, you don’t need to worry about soggy sandwiches as there is a delicious restaurant and café on-site.

See a film
When it’s lashing it down outside you can’t beat a bit of cinematic escapism. While there is TV in every room here, if you feel like getting out or seeing something brand spanking new, we’re only 15 minutes from St Austell Cinema. It has four auditoriums and shows 3D releases (very fancy) so there’s sure to be something for everyone’s taste.

Take a coastal walk
Sometimes you’ve just got to embrace the mizzle! As the saying goes, there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes. So pack your walking boots and waterproofs if you want to go exploring in the rain. You can walk the entire Cornish coast using the South West Coast Path, though we’re very well located to stretches along both the Polperro Heritage Coast and the Roseland Heritage Coast on the south coast. Our top tip? Pick a walk with a pub at the end!

Explore Cornwall’s mining heritage
Intrigued by Cornwall’s mining history? Head to Wheal Martyn, which is the UK’s only china clay mining experience and home to Cornwall’s largest working waterwheel. While there is plenty to do outdoors, there is also plenty to see indoors including an interactive centre with film footage and a dressing up area.

Enjoy a roast by the coast
Rainy, wintery Sundays in Cornwall are about one thing and one thing only: a roast dinner with all the trimmings. This is best enjoyed in a cosy coastal pub with a roaring fire, and you’ll be pleased to know we’re very well situated for this! We’re less than four miles from Mevagissey, a beautiful old fishing port with a working harbour. We like The Sharks Fin for its huge harbour view windows and laidback beachy décor, but we love it for their delicious Sunday roast dinners. If you fancy going slightly further afield, head to the sweet seaside village of Charlestown. It’s still less than eight miles away and it’s a real treat for Poldark fans who will spot that it stood in for Truro during filming! For glorious sea views head to the The Pier House Hotel and go between 12pm – 2pm to enjoy the Sunday carvery.
