Perfect Cornish Picnic
The sun is at its highest now during summer, making our shadows tall and distorting landscapes with heat haze. In Cornwall, this is the perfect time of year for getting lost in hidden places. The grounds of our luxury boutique B&B in Cornwall provide a great place to start from. We have been collecting bits and pieces to make the meadows of Lower Barns a tranquil and relaxed space to soak up the Cornish sun.
Surrounded as we are by amazing landscape and scenery, Cornwall offers many different places to go and enjoy a picnic. We think there are some perfect ingredients to the perfect Cornish picnic, and we’re not just talking about the amazing local food. Although we think you’d be hard pushed to find fish as fresh and eggs as luxuriously yellow as those bought within Cornwall.
Upon request, you can order fresh Cornish pasties baked right here at Lower Barns, using meat from local farms.
Boutique views
One of the perfect things about Cornwall is that there are literally thousands of stunning backdrops which you can access completely free. Just as different towns, villages and locations within the county are individual, so are each of the guests who choose to stay in our luxury accommodation.
Many people enjoy the south coast, with its picturesque biscuit tin villages and rattling flotilla of boats. Others enjoy the rugged cliffs of the north coast and its wilder seas. From Marazion to Maker, and from Bude to Botallack, there is a rich and diverse scenery to suit any guest wishing to explore.
Boutique secrecy
There’s something really magical about getting lost. In some places in Cornwall, the landscape is almost timeless; unaffected by modernity and civilisation. These are great places to enjoy secrecy, and even in the height of summer there can be very few other people around. A short drive away Pentewan Sands is a fab place to drive to; leaving the car. For those who enjoy walking, and have the energy, the coast path between the beach and Mevagissey offers one such hike: wilderness, a sea view and brave walk down to remote and exclusive nature.
Exclusive microclimate
Cornwall is home to an impressive microclimate, which means that we are able to grow plants here unlike any others this side of the Equator. Spring comes very early in Cornwall, when the first buds of daffodils and crocus peer up in January, and the colours of autumn are valued for their longevity. Autumn in Cornwall is the home of the harvest, with food festivals and long mild evenings. Even in winter hardy ferns and bracken illuminate cliff tops.
Cornwall is riven with beautiful gardens which provide an excellent place for picnicking. Within walking distance of Lower Barns, sits the enchanted Lost Gardens of Heligan and just under ten miles away the Eden Project provides year round summer. Cornwall is full of stunning gardens, which all provide a sweet spot for a picnic.
With notice, we can make traditional pasties for you here at Lower Barns, or pack you a picnic; all you need to do is ask!
