Film, food and fun for November
Cornwall is known and loved for many things, some more obvious than others.
Film is probably not what we hear, or boost about most. However we have an amazing Cornwall Film Festival, that runs at just the right time of the year too. Just as the evenings have got dark and before the sparkle of Christmas, we indulge in our love of film for one whole month, starting on 31st October.
The Cornwall Film Festival (CFF) was established in 2002 by a group of enthusiastic Cornish filmmakers as a platform to screen short films made in Cornwall and to develop an audience for film. The first festival screened 63 shorts and two feature-length films. Since then, the festival has steadily grown to include a range of skills workshops, educational events and professional development opportunities and, in 2008, became a registered charity.
Films and events will be held all over Cornwall. We have some really quaint, old fashioned cinemas still going strong. This festival gives you the chance to visit some of our towns as well as take in some film culture. You could submit your own film too.
Have a look at the website http://cornwallfilmfestival.com/ and for the whole range of films and activities. Falmouth is about half an hour from Lowers Barns, as is Redruth. Penzance is the furthest at nearly an hour away.
While you are here you could do some early Christmas shopping at the MacMillan Christmas Fair http://cornwallmacmillanchristmasfair.co.uk/ which is being held at The Eden Project on 13th November. It’s an opportunity to buy authentic Cornish made presents from food and booze to craft. Believe me, the sampling is mouth watering!
That said you could also try out the new gravity swing at The Eden Project http://www.edenproject.com/media/2014/09/who-dares-swings-with-gravity-edens-thrilling-new-giant-swing….could you stomach it?!
So that’s days and nights sorted for November! I’ll keep posting other ideas, there is always lots going on.
Meanwhile….I will start some redecorating right after half term. I’ll keep you posted about that too.
