Cornwall’s finest boutique winter wonderland!
Is November nearly over already?!
Autumn has really had us in its grasp, especially with the weekend’s storm and now we’re on the cusp of winter and Christmas!
Slow down they say, as winter is here but there is so much to do outside… from rubbing down garden furniture to picking up leaves and planting next years tulips. It’s about getting your hands not just dirty but filthy!
With our milder winters, this is the time of year when sweet young hedgehogs make an appearance in our gardens. We can help them thrive by making our gardens a little more hedgehog friendly by leaving piles of leaf litter and logs around the garden. These make good nests and also provide homes for the slugs and beetles that hedgehogs like to eat.
Weather is what defines winter. The joy of a crisp, bright day, just right for walking among the autumn and winter colours. Empty beaches with the waves crashing the shore line. Wrapping up warm on cold nights, star gazing while the fire pit spits and crackles. On a rainy afternoon, will you hole up on the sofa with home made hot chocolate and read that book you’ve been meaning to finish? At Lower Barns you can go hot-tubbing in your own private garden to enjoy the outside, in the luxury of warm water before going back inside to snuggle up.
Winter for us is when we like to change the look of our home. I love winter, for always bringing out the ‘designer’ in me. I get really inspired and motivated by the idea of guests returning to www.lowerbarns.co.uk to find the new and old things that I’ve managed to source and Mike’s latest creative building projects.
I don’t suppose we will ever stop creating at Lower Barns, as every year something new inspires us and we just love sharing our magical space with you lovely people. At the moment Mike is working on my new summerhouse in the paddock, which I’m hoping will be complete in the Spring. The Lounge is having a total makeover with new colours, lighting and most exciting of all is new art work from Ben Allen, (who did our fab graffiti wall). We are using the amazing colour palette of Designer Guild and of course, more cushions are on the way! What would the world be without cushions?! The Bosue Suite is also having a bath and revamp.
Most of all, Mike and I are taking some well earned rest so we can plan more adventures for you guys, if you are planing a trip to indulge in Cornwall’s paradise beaches, spectacular scenery, amazing foods and boutique places to stay.
We believe we have found the recipe for your next holiday, with no stress or strain, and we have even had a map done for those sat-navvy moments you so often find in Cornwall’s winding country lanes. After 20 years of creating www.lowerbarns.co.uk we are pretty sure we’ve got what you’re looking for.
Love Janie x
