AN INTIMATE FAMILY WEDDING AT LOWER BARNS
Nicola and Paul had a real runaway wedding – they travelled all the way from Essex to tie the knot here at Lower Barns with their two daughters in attendance. “We only told my parents and our girls the day before we left to get married and then announced the news to everyone when we got back,” Nicola explains.
The couple, who come to Mevagissey every year on holiday, were searching for an intimate place to marry in this corner of Cornwall, which holds so many memories for them. “Lots of the wedding venues we looked at were just too big for the four of us,” she says. “When we can across Lower Barns, we knew it was perfect.”
Settling into Nook and Cranny, Nicola, Paul and their daughters were wowed by our vibrant interiors and attention to detail. “We were amazed at how fantastic and unique Lower Barns was,” she says. “There were so many personal touches, such as fresh bread and yoghurt and fruit in the fridge, amazing décor and such lovely quality bedding that we didn’t want to get up!”
The relaxed vibe was set from the moment they arrived. “We had a wonderful dinner the night before the wedding in The Shack,” says Nicola. “On the morning of the wedding, breakfast was brought to our rooms and we then enjoyed a glass of champagne in our courtyard.”
Nicola and Paul exchanged their vows in the Wed Shed. “It was so sweet – just the four of us (and the registrars),” says Nicola. “We came out of the Wed Shed into glorious sunshine to a gorgeous spread of canapés, stunning sunflowers and champagne to toast the wedding. It really was perfect and everyone who has seen our wedding photos all comment on how colourful and unique Lower Barns is.”
The family soaked up the sunshine and some precious moments together celebrating. Then, in the evening, they enjoyed a wedding feast in The Shack, where a crackling log fire and the glow of candlelight created the perfect setting for the festivities. “It was so cosy and romantic. The food was fantastic. Janie and Mike left us there to stay as long as we liked before the roaring fire. It was just perfect,” reflects Nicola.
Looking back, Nicola has many fond and colourful memories of their personal wedding at Lower Barns. “It really was an unforgettable time and, without a doubt, getting married there made our wedding what it was. We want to go back and do it all again!”
