The modern wedding is all about celebrating personality – and we have it in abundance here at Lower Barns. Not only does our venue ripple with rich, vibrant character and memorable details, our approach to weddings is centred upon you and your requirements. Forget one-size-fits-all wedding packages and conveyor belt celebrations – we’re all about small, intimate weddings designed entirely around your vision for the day. Whether it’s a low-key do for two or a party for 20 of your nearest and dearest, we’ll make it happen – and in unforgettable style.

While our first weddings have taken place this summer – to glowing feedback – we have been tinkering away behind the scenes to broaden the celebration options for those of you seeking a personal party. And we are delighted to welcome you to The Party Shed!

Tucked away in conveniently close proximity to The Wed Shed and The Hiding Places, The Party Shed is a fabulous space for our newly-weds to use as they wish. Wooden tones give the space a rustic, cosy character, while quirky signage, funky lighting and fun details add our signature style to the space. There’s a snug sofa and melt-into-me chairs arranged around a log burner for relaxed moments savouring the magic of your day, while the addition of a long table and bar makes the perfect spot to gather for a hearty feast – whether it’s a delectable afternoon tea, traditional roast dinner, tasty fish dish or laid-back barbecue – washed down with beers and bubbles.

The perfect setting for some together-time, this versatile space comes complete with some fun features for your celebrations. There’s a screen and projector for a movie night – imagine sharing popcorn together as you enjoy your favourite flick as newly-weds. There’s also an iPod and old-school record player and decks, so you can choose your soundtrack for your personal party, whether it’s chilled vibes to accompany an evening of chatter and laughter, or a playlist of funky tunes to groove the night away.

Food is a key ingredient of the modern wedding. Beyond the perfection of your coupledom and the sheer, mind-blowing romance of the occasion, the food is the next most-talked-about element.

Hence, couples are increasingly pouring their attention into devising a delicious array of food and drinks to offer their guests – and, thankfully, the days of insipid soup, indigestible vol-au-vents and bland roast dinners are long gone.

The wedding scene is awash with creative and mouth-watering foodie options. Sharing platters are big news – not only do they instill a laidback and family vibe to your wedding feast, there’s nothing like sharing food for breaking the ice – your guests will be exchanging excitable chatter over scrumptious flavours in no time. Interactive food stations has brought a fun, more relaxed dimension to the stilted wedding breakfast of yesteryear – it might be an ice cream sundae station, a paella stand or gourmet pizza oven where guests can choose their own toppings. And the rise of the festival wedding has seen an explosion of fun, mobile catering options; think fish and chip vans, mobile pizza ovens and cocktail caravans.

In keeping with this more relaxed approach, which is taking the wedding scene by storm, barbecued menus are growing in popularity – and it’s not difficult to see why. The perfect pairing for the relaxed, sand-between-your-toes vibe here in Cornwall, the blend of smoky flavours, tender meats and zingy salads is always going to hit the spot with hungry guests.

And for an elegant and utterly scrumptious affair, you can’t go wrong with an afternoon tea. Another huge trend in wedding world, you can’t fail to impress your guests with a gorgeous spread of little sandwiches, dainty scones and exquisite cakes that tastes as good as it looks.

Here at Lower Barns, the emphasis is on tailoring a wedding feast entirely around your vision with fresh, locally sourced food. We embrace the abundance of produce on our doorstep here in Cornwall. Located just a stone’s throw from the fishing village of Mevagissey, fresh fish is a favourite feature in our dishes; we also love to treat guests to beautifully cooked meats, reared on Cornish soil, delicious local vegetables and melt-in-your-mouth desserts.

Whether it’s your favourite comfort food, a chilled out barbecue, a moreish afternoon tea or hearty three-course dinner, we look forward to serving a wedding feast to remember!
